Our Edition 8 presents a series of pieces with a « pastel » overdye, bringing together our ateliers’ craftsmanship with the ancestral technique of pastel blue, brought to a new life by the atelier des bleus pastels d’occitanie.
This natural dye comes from the herbaceous plant « isatis tinctoria ». It requires a very strict and entirely handcrafted dyeing process. Replaced by the asian indigo plant, that could be synthetized and used in an industrial environment, this technique had entirely disappeared.
It was reintroduced by Henri and Denise Lambert in the 1990s, in the Tarn et Garonne region (South West of France), where the plant is now grown. The blue that is obtained depends of the dyeing bath and the weather conditions of the day the piece is dyed, making each of them unique.
