SHINYA MAKINO, TOKYO JAPAN

Could you please introduce yourself?

My name is Shinya Makino. I am a buyer and shop manager at Maiden's Shop in Tokyo.

Could you introduce us to this piece? Where does it come from? How old is it?

This is a Levi’s 606 pair of trousers, made in United States in the 1960s.

Did it belong to someone else before you? Did you buy it for yourself? Why did you buy it? How did you find it?

I bought them at a vintage shop called Cabaret in Okazaki City, in the Aichi prefecture, where I come from. I have been visiting this shop since my high school days. It influenced me a lot, encouraging me to work in the fashion industry. I had been longing for the United States and this is the first vintage piece I ever bought.

Do you remember the first time you wore it?

Of course I remember ! I was a university student and I used to wear this slim-fitted 606 coordinated with a worn-out mods coat. I actually still sport the same style today.

What are your memories of this piece?

I wore it when I first visited Boston, when I was 20 years old. It was a perfect piece for the summer there and I wore it all the time... this pair of jeans is like the origin of my style.

Are there any signs of wear and tear? Have you already repaired this piece?

I haven’t repaired it yet. It is in good enough condition for me to continue to wear it.

When do you usually wear it? Do you remember when you last wore it?

I wear it through the year. I think I wore it for the last time last spring.
