Mother's soccer coach shirt

Worn since 1994

Joseph F. Del Vecchio, New York United States of America

Could you introduce yourself?
My name is Joseph F. Del Vecchio and I work in fine art investment. I was born and raised in New York, where I've lived my entire life, except 2 years in Milan for my MBA.

Could you introduce us to this piece? Where does it come from? How old is it?
This polo shirt belonged to my mother. She was the assistant coach of my club soccer team when I was young. I'd say it is from 1994 right around when the United States hosted the World Cup.

Did it belong to someone else before you? Did you buy it for yourself? Why did you buy it? How did you find it?
After my mom wore it. this shirt lived in our family's garage for more than 20 years! I found it a few years ago. My parents had just sold the house I was raised in and I went back to help them clean out the garage and attic.

Do you remember the first time you wore it?
It quickly became a wardrobe staple for me, so I can't remember the first time I wore it!

What are your memories of this piece?
I remember the countless soccer practices, games, and tournaments that played such an important role in my personal development and I am reminded of the dedication and support my mom always provided me with along the way. Also, our club color was purple... my grandmother's favorite color, and mine too!

Are there any signs of wear and tear? Have you already repaired this piece?
When I found this piece in our family garage it was in perfect condition. The cotton is thin, soft and well-worn but the shirt itself was preserved immaculately. Any signs of wear and tear are my own doing, because I wear this shirt all the time!

When do you usually wear it? Do you remember when you last wore it?
I wear this shirt most often in summer. The last time I remember wearing it was this past summer while visiting friends and family in Southern Italy.
