JUMPEI SEKI, PARIS FRANCE

Could you introduce yourself ?

My name is Jumpei Seki. I have been living in Paris since 2015. I work as a fashion improver. I advise French brands on how to develop their business on the Japanese market. I also help Japanese brands to get exposure overseas.

Could you introduce us to this sweater? Where does it come from? How old is it?

This is a fine wool navy sweater. I think it dates back from the 90’s but I am not sure.

Did it belong to someone else before you? Did you buy it for yourself? Why did you buy it? How did you find it?

I have had this sweater for ten years. It used to belong to my wife’s uncle. He bought it in London where he used to live at some point. It was given to me after he passed away.

Do you remember the first time you wore it?

I don’t recall precisely the first time I wore it. I do remember that at first, I didn’t like this sweater because I used to find it too big for me but after I wore it for a few times, it became very precious to me. It set the standard of what I look for when I buy knitwear. By that I mean that I like navy crewnecks with a loose and comfortable fit which do not pill easily.

What are your memories of this sweater?

I don’t have any specific memories linked to this sweater. Simply put, it is my favorite sweater. Even though I have had it for many years, it doesn’t show any pilling. I have been looking for sweaters like this for ages but so far, I have not found any sweater as good as this one.

Are there any signs of wear and tear? Have you already repaired this piece?

It had a small hole in the body that I mended myself and the bottom of the rib is a bit frayed but otherwise, it is still in good condition.

When do you usually wear it? Do you remember when you last wore it?

Now that it is a bit worn out, I don’t wear it as much as I used too. However, a navy crewneck sweater is part of my everyday uniform, especially during the winter season. I remember wearing it for the last time last winter.
