October 27th, 2025
The yak is an animal native to the high Himalayan plateaus, capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, primarily in Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia, and certain remote regions of China. As a result, it develops an exceptional fleece composed of two layers: a long, strong outer layer that protects the animal from the elements, and a silky, insulating undercoat that is warmer and softer than traditional wool. Its rare and precious fiber comes from the undercoat that the yak naturally sheds in the spring. It is harvested by combing (not shearing), without pain or stress. This raw material, difficult to harvest and produced in very small quantities each year, makes yak wool one of the most exclusive animal fibers in the world.
Yak wool is renowned for its incomparable warmth, softness, finesse, and natural insulating properties. Combined with merino wool, it creates a fabric that is lightweight, supple, and durable. For this yak and wool cloth, we chose to work with an Italian spinning mill in Biella, a leading region for textile excellence, where the fiber is spun and then woven using traditional techniques. Their yak fibers come from China, while the merino wool is selected from South Africa, two sources renowned for the quality of their livestock. The finishing touches are chemical-free, simply milled and washed with non-aggressive soaps to preserve the fiber's suppleness and authenticity. This fabric combines comfort, elegance, and durability, which we translate into refined loungewear pieces.
