Corduroy

Corduroy

EDITION 9

November 5th, 2017

Corduroy is a fabric full of meaning and history. The term appeared in 1774, from the old french “cor du Roy”, but in fact, the fabric descends from an ancient Egyptian fabric called “futaine”, dating as far as 200 b.c. this brushed cotton, imported in Europe in the XIIth century, was valued for the slow speed of its weaving process.

Known to be a sturdy and resistant fabric, corduroy has been used for a wide variety of purposes from the beginning of the XXth century : School uniforms, utility and outerwear garments... It then became the cloth of choice of English gentlemen farmers, at the peak of the industrial revolution.

The resistance and rigidity of corduroy comes from alternating twisted fibers, and shaved tight fibers. according to the direction of the yarn, the fabric appears to be lighter or darker, this effect of light on the fabric is called “doubleton” (double tone).

The type of corduroy is determined by the number of wales by centimeter, from the lighter needlecord to the heavier wide-wale corduroys. Our edition 9 introduces a heavy, wide-wale corduroy to our fall wardrobe. it is woven by a renowned English mill, respecting the specific craftsmanship pertaining to this fabric.
