Could you please introduce yourself?

My name is Tatsuya Hirasawa. I am the fashion director of two stores located in Tokyo: Maidens Shop and well-made by Maidens Shop.

Could you introduce us to this pair of glasses? Where does it come from? How old is it?

These sunglasses were made by an American brand called Liberty Optical. They were probably produced in the 1960’s.
Liberty Optical used to be a quite popular brand in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Many celebrities wore their glasses. Nowadays, it is very rare to find a pair, so most of the ones that you can find are unique pieces.

Did they belong to someone else before you? Did you buy them for yourself? Why did you buy them? How did you find them?

I bought them for myself about 8 years ago. I found them randomly in a vintage store. Since I was young I have always been fond of wearing glasses as a fashion item. Although it is often difficult to find good vintage glasses in terms of size or condition, these glasses were exactly what I had been looking for and I didn’t think twice when I bought them.

Do you remember the first time you wore them?

I don’t remember precisely. All I can remember is that I was quite excited when I found them.

Do you have memories linked to these glasses?

I always wear these glasses to friends’ weddings parties or other special ceremonies. They are associated to important moments of my life.

Are there any signs of wear and tear? Have you already repaired these glasses?

These glasses are still in great condition. I am quite careful when I wear them. I have never had to perform any repairs on them so far.

When do you usually wear them?

I usually wear them for formal occasions or when I wear a suit. For some reason, these glasses give me a very special feeling when I put them on and although I own several pair of glasses, these still are my favorite pair to this day. I will continue to wear them for special occasions in the future.
