Cotton terry

Cotton terry

EDITION 8

June 23rd, 2017

Terrycloth fabrics stand out by their capacity to absorb water. Working from the base of the fabric, the manufacturing process forms loops of yarn on its surface. This absorption capacity can be enhanced by using a natural fiber like cotton, well known for its water-retaining properties.

"Simple" terry fabrics, where loops only appear on one side, while the other side remains flat, are called "French Terry". This is the case of this heathered terry fabric that we selected from one of our favorite japanese mills, literally making it a "Japanese French Terry"... although in French, this kind of fabric is called "sponge" fabric, referring to its aforementioned properties !

A jersey specialist, this mill owns old knitting machines which can reproduce vintage aspects and handfeels with high-quality, thanks to a slow knitting pace. In particular, the machine that was used to knit this cotton terry was configured to form random loops, giving the fabric an especially light and airy touch. A demanding dyeing process was applied at the level of the fiber itself to obtain the heathered effect. Hence the color can stand the test of time.

The manufacturing of the following T-shirt and polo shirt has been given to atelier 'Le Minor', a well-known jersey specialist located in Guidel, Brittany.
